MLS Thursday Night: DC United v Chicago Fire
By: Bob | November 1st, 2007
Haven’t we done this before? Indeed we have. The same two teams that kicked off the 2007 MLS season on ESPN2 seven days ago are back at it for round two of their two-round bout. The thought of watching the same teams on the same night of the week would normally make me want to hit the snooze button, but this is elimination time and the storyline is good enough to mandate the requisite beverage of choice and quality time on the couch.
If you’ve read this far, and god bless you if you have because I am feeling especially scornful of grammar today, you most likely know what happened in the first leg. Chris Rolfe scored in the 14th minute in Chicago to give the Fire a 1-0 advantage heading into tonight’s match.
You also know that Chicago has never allowed a playoff goal against DC United and have outscored the four-time champions 11-0 in their six previous playoff encounters. You are well aware that Luciano Emilio and Jaimie Moreno both saw limited minutes on the pitch last week and their health remains a question heading into the battle at RFK Stadium.
You may also know that the Fire have not allowed a goal in their last three games and that keeper Matt Pickens has not picked one out of the back of the net in 336 minutes. The fact that Chicago has not been especially productive on the road with just 15 goals away from home this season may also be buried deep in the recesses of your mind. So is the fact that DC united have only lost twice at home all season.
Just about the only thing you don’t know about these two teams and this playoff series is who will advance after the final whistle is blown in DC. Or perhaps you do know and you are dying to tell the world through your predictions and comments below.
Enjoy the game.

DC 3-1 (3-2 agg.) - that’d be a good exciting game, especially if Chicago got the first goal and DC had to score three straight to advance.

I concur. I say 3-1 to DC, but I think DC will score first and Chicago will get a late consolation goal.

Why is there a NY RedBull in the picture?
