“Most Fashionable” Sports Players

By: Laurie | December 1st, 2007

oscarmesh.jpgNormally I try to avoid anything that includes words like “most fashionable.” Because the word “fashionable” derives from “fashion”, and, in general, fashion involves…brace yourselves, because this is a painful word…shopping. For me, well… I personally would cheerfully gnaw off an appendage if it would get me out of a trip to the mall.

But that’s just me. Some of our friends love fashion, including our buddies over at Machochip.com, who have just crowned The Ten Most Fashionable Sports Playas.

And two of them have soccer connections. Three if you count Oscar de la Hoya. Which I’m going to, because he’s rumored to be considering buying the Houston Dynamo AND it gives me the opportunity to post a picture of Oscar in high heels and fishnet stockings. Can’t pass that up.

(No, I’m not going to give you the link to/story behind the photo. Because it’s…odd. And involves Russian supermodels. And I’m a mom. So somebody would probably call CPS on me if I said more. But others are not so scrupulous/parental, so if you can’t live without this knowledge, check out sites that deal in this kind of thing. Like…oh, I don’t know…maybe….uh…Deadspin?)

Oh, and just for the record, guys? I know that in the heat of the moment, photos like this can seem like a good idea. They’re not. Trust me on this one.

But anyhoo. Your Ten Most Fashionable Sports Playas, according to Macrochip, are:

10. Floyd Mayweather Junior — boxer (Laurie says: Okay, whatever.)
9. Tony Parker — basketball (He’s French, you know.)
8. Hulk Hogan — wrestling (Uh…what?!?)
7. Serena Williams — Tennis (I’m female. And straight. So… No comment.)
6. Lance Armstrong — Cycling (Because that barechested-with-McConaughey thing says style and class all the way.)
5. Alex Rodriguez — baseball (He never shoulda left the Mariners)
4. Anna Kournikova — tennis (see: Williams, Serena)
3. Cristiano Ronaldo — soccer (Love those manbags. No. Really.)
2. Oscar de la Hoya — boxing. And potential soccer team owner. (See photo. ‘Nuff said.)
1. David Beckham — soccer. (Was there any other choice?)

So there you have it. Although I have to question the methodology of any list of the extremely fashionable which does not include Thierry Henry. Macrochip, explain yourselves.

I stopped caring about list made by americans (no offense) and labeled “the most/best/biggest… in the world”.
Most those lists care about the US, Canada sometimes and the UK. Throw your readers a curve ball by talking about someone they have not heard of yet (i.e Cristiano Roanldo) an you’ll look smart.
I’m not saying I’m an expert on fashion. What the hell, I’m an expert on fashion! And this list, my friends is rubbish.
You can’t sport a platinum blond mullet under a rhinestone bandan and be called stylish. I’m not even gonna comment on Hulk Hogan.
Oh and I like TP and all, he’s reppin the hell out of paris and gets props, but the guy can’t dress. I guess Texas will do that to you.
