N. Korean Leader Is Not Dead, He’s Watching Footy
By: Laurie | October 7th, 2008
Those of you who think N. Korean leader Kim Jong Il is either dead or debilitated? Pfffblt. Because he was totally just watching a socccer game.
Rumors have been flying since The Great Leader failed to show at the parade for the 60th anniversary of the DPRK in early September. General thinking was that he’d had a stroke. But now the Korean Central News Agency has issued a release saying that
Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), watched a student football match, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Saturday.
The match was held between Kim Il Sung University and Pyongyang University of Railways on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the former, it said. Kim Il Sung University beat Pyongyang University of Railways 4-1. [...]
“After watching the match, leader Kim Jong Il congratulated the players on their outstanding performance,” said the report. “Students in our country are good at art and sporting activities while devoting all their wisdom and enthusiasm to the study of science for the country and the people,” Kim was quoted as saying.
Minor detail, though? There’s no date given for the game.
It remains to be determined whether the beautiful game is truly able to cure whatever ails you.
