Nakamura Gets Some Big Help With Free Kicks

By: Daryl | June 30th, 2007

Japan RugbyCeltic’s Japanese playmaker Shunsuke Nakamura has taken an interesting approach to practicing free kicks. He’s got the Japanese rugby team to help him out. This isn’t one of those Beckhamy cross-sport promotional thingies, this is actual practice designed to help the lad take actual free kicks.

The logic goes: footballers are smallish, rugby players are huge. So if you practice bending the ball around a wall of five meaty 6ft something rugby players then the little fellas Nakamura will line up against come Asian Cup time will pose no threat. “That was hard work,” the Celtic midfielder told Japanese reporters at the national team’s mountain training camp. “It was the biggest wall I’ve ever seen!”
