Name To Remember: Alan Dzagoev
By: chris | October 23rd, 2008Andrei Arshavin’s the now, but the future is fast approaching for the Russian National Team with 18 year old Alan Dzagoev on a meteoric rise. I’d bookmarked a video last week as a reminder to write something up and, of course, I forgot. So Alan took it upon himself to remind me today by scoring two goals in CSKA Moscow’s 3-0 victory over Deportivo la Coruna in the UEFA Cup. Heard you loud and clear, so thanks for the push.
Alan’s an attacking midfielder who fancies himself after Frank Lampard, another midfielder who enjoys putting the ball in the back of the ol’ net. At just 18 (a 90’s baby), he’s got 8 goals in just 15 Russian Premier League games for CSKA Moscow this year, but even better, 7 of those 8 have come in his last 7 games. Add today’s exploits and it’s safe to say the kid’s in torrid form. Or maybe this is just a glimpse of the future. Guus Hiddink seems to think so: Alan got his first two caps in Russia’s recent qualifiers.
The Russians are on the rise, and it’s not just a foreign-born coach leading the charge. These boys are quite legit.

there’s been plenty of russian footballers better than him that made a splash when they were young, but they fell off because of the money & fame.. laziness. Dimitry Sychev is the best example of this. Was the best player in World Cup 2002 (including Rivaldo, Ronaldo, etc) but came back and screwed everything up with Spartak, then went to Marseille and did absolutely nothing along with Drogba..
However i think Dzagoev will be different, as he seems very grounded.

The anchor guy at the beginning of the clip is like the Russian Chris Berman. And why does he have a corded phone on the desk? Is he going to take some calls?
Oh, and #46 seems to be pretty good.
