A Name To Remember: Luis Suarez
By: chris | March 28th, 2008
This one’s almost cheating, because he’s so good already a lot of people know his name. However, his exploits have been mildly overshadowed by the monster that is Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who’s scoring like he plays basketball. Of course, some of those goals have been assisted by none other than Mr. Suarez (including the first one in the video down below). Like KJH, Suarez scores goals that are only seemingly highlight reel worthy, as though anything less than spectacular just isn’t worth doing. I think we need more of them around.
Suarez is a 21 year old from Uruguay who plays as a striker, though more out on the left as a creative force who has the skills of an all-around attacking whirlwind (probably reminds Ajax fans of someone). He started out in Uruguay before being bought up by FC Groningen for 800,000 last year. A season of dazzling the Eredivisie later Ajax bought him for a cool 7.5m over the summer of 07 – now that’s what you call ROI.
As for a player, typically plays out left (started much of the beginning of the year on the right) and works his way in, acting as both a striker and a maestro. Two-footed, with very quick feet and a good amount of pace, with a rocket of a shot to boot. Oh, and there’s the chicanery and all that, too. There is much questioning Dutch goal scorers, and he has a very good rate on a high scoring team, he is no doubt an extremely gifted attacker and the real deal.
Call it being a product of the 90’s, but I still can’t help but think of Ajax as anything but a massive club, despite recent times. Still, eventually he’ll wind up at one of the biggest of the big, as you can see:
* – Also, the Ajax Offside is up and running again. Go check it out.

I’m with you Chris. The world is not right when it’s PSV in the CL every year. I’d *LOVE* to see Ajax back on the big stage. They always have great young players.

Suarez is a big reason we have managed to do as well as we have, but he needs two things to deliver on his enormous promise: consistency and discipline. He loves to do the spectacular but is often lax in doing the necessary. But he will soften the blow of losing KJH someday (this summer).

Currently, PSV has actually more talented young Dutch players in the first team than Ajax with Afellay, Bakkal and Marcellis.

I believe that Luis Suarez is one of the greatest players i have seen, and i also believe that KJH is gonna miss him a lot wherever he plays .
