Nancy Keeper Walks the Ball Into His Own Goal

By: Daryl | November 7th, 2008

Nancy goalkeeper Gennaro Bracigliano will want to forget about this one, from last night’s 2-2 draw away to Lech Poznan in the UEFA Cup.

Semir Stilic’s free kick looked easy enough to deal with. Just step back and take a simple catch. And that’s exactly what Bracigliano did, except he kept stepping back after he’d caught the ball and carried it over the line for a Lech goal.

Bracigliano was booked for protesting the decision and on first viewing he seems pretty hard done by. But the fact that he suddenly released the ball in a panic suggests he knew exactly what he’d done.

I see these headlines and I can never watch the videos. They cause me great pain in my maternal area. Especially when it’s a France team.
