Nani Nutmegs Stephen Warnock with His Trailing Foot

By: Daryl | April 21st, 2008

When you see this at full speed it doesn’t look all that interesting. Looks like Nani just cuts inside to beat Blackburn left back Stephen Warnock. But wait for the slo-mo replay and you’ll see something a bit special. Man Utd’s Portuguese winger (not that one, the other one) somehow uses the instep of his trailing foot to nutmeg Warnock, who ends up slide tackling thin air.

Credit to Warnock for getting back and (sort of) making the recovery tackle, but extra credit to Nani for proving he doesn’t only pull out the tricks when Man Utd are 4-0 up. Bad news for the YouTuber who made this Premiership 2007/8 showboating video though. Looks like he’s got some re-editing to do.

I was watching this match on the intertubes and was mildly impressed with Nani there, even before the slo-mo. After that, of course, I was very impressed. The boy’s got skills. Maybe not the presence of mind to know when not to use them sometimes, but skills nonetheless.

Nani´s style reminds me of Figo. “Get close and I´ll just walk past you where you least expect”. Complete contrast to CR´s “electricity”. Anyway, a nice piece of football anywhere in the world… But that´s just what I think…
