Nani Scores a Flippin’ Belter

By: Daryl | August 26th, 2007

Nani flip goalIf Manchester United fans had any doubts about Portuguese youngster Nani, then they can stop now. The new signing had been thrust into a prominent role in Manchester United’s first team maybe a little earlier than planned after Cristiano Ronaldo’s ill-advised headbutt against Portsmouth, but had failed to produce anything in the Premiership that was spectacular, or effective. Until today that is.

In the 68th minute of United’s game against Tottenham he collected the ball with his back to goal, turned and unleashed this rocket, which was enough to win the game 1-0.

And he even pulled off his already trademark backflip, which I thought Fergie had banned. Surely even the United boss won’t be mean enough to begrudge the young lad a celebration after such an important goal?

Great news for United then, who had started this morning in the relegation zone. Bad bad news for Martin Jol though, whose grip on the Tottenham job gets looser with every failure to win.

What can I say? Nani’s goal was indeed a beauty and exactly what Man U needed to revive their title hopes. This win could have perhaps awoken the sleeping giants. I think Carlos Tevez looked out of odds in his position. The secondary forward in the form of Scholes didn’t do much to help Tevez’s situation. Tevez needs a player with whom he can combine to break down defences. He definatly needs Saha or somebody. Nani is appearing to settle in whatever positions he’s thrown in, that’s very good for United. United’s defence is cause for much concern. They were bloody horrible in certain instances but came up lucky. Reo didn’t look fit at all. He appeared to be struggling to keep up with the game. I’m also very worried about Evra. Like I’ve been saying since the beginning, offence is not the problem, its a matter of defending which was apparent in the many close chances that Spurs produced. United definately have depth in offence but not so much in the defensive options.

im a united fan and for the most part they looked horrible today, berbatov had them beaten due to their laziness at the back all second half. the nani goal was great but he didnt do much else really. hopefully jol doesn’t get the boot for this.

I think they’ve been off to one horrible start but probably because of the transfers(being all new and all that) needing to gel in well. And something knocking on my brain says that we need a striker, say…Anelka(considering all the expierience he already has in English football).Well SAF knows what he’s doing(I hope).

We’re playing all wrong. taking the ball to thier penalty area and trying to walk through the defence is stupid. Thats what arsenal did last year and look where it got them.
