Needing to win by 11 Goals, they did

Long before Malta became a juggernaut in international football, they took part in one of the strangest games in history. The minnows faced a Spain side that needed to win by 11 goals to qualify for the 1984 European Championship. Spain missed an early penalty in the contest and conceded an equalizer before going on to win — you guessed it — 12-1. Was it a miracle or a match that was fixed? Let’s just say that Malta keeper didn’t exactly risk life or limb (or try) on some of those goals. You can decide for yourself by watching the highlights in the video above.

Idk Bob, the headline itself indicates the match must have been fixed, but some of those goals were really nice. I think what happened was after goal 6 or 7 or so the Malta 'keeper probably just figured why bother anymore
