Nike Now Taking Fashion Cues From Seinfeld

By: chris | February 18th, 2010

It’s very rare that the worlds of Seinfeld and football combine. In fact, I’m not sure Larry David would stand for it. But it’s happened, so we must accept it.

(And really, is there ever a bad excuse for a Seinfeld clip?)

Nike created the latest kit for Shanghai Shenhua and you’ll notice – at least once you click that little jump bit – the pink and white striped inner lining of the shirt. A similar lining was one of the main characters of a rather famous Seinfeld episode, The Jacket.

The stripes are broader, but the theory is the same. Now hopefully this pink lining doesn’t force Shanghai to suffer the same fate as Jerry’s jacket. (Bumpy audio.)

You probably don’t care that Shanghai Shenhua will be donning the kit, nor are you likely to ever see this particular kit worn. But if rumor is true, the design will look remarkably similar for the World Cup kits of New Zealand, Serbia and North Korea.

Seinfeld: Influencing World Cup fashion 20 years later. Who knew?

With Sol Campbell’s Arsenal header yesterday, we’re left with only one conclusion: the past is the future. Which is more than fine, so long as it doesn’t involve George Costanza.
