I think it pathetic the way people base their opinions from what they hear on the media. I mean, some of the arguments on here so far were made-up quotes like the “i’m the first, second and third best footballer.”
Sure, you may not like his style of play or his behaviour on the pitch, but going as far as saying you don’t like his “character” is ignorant and idiotic, none of you know him. Actually, from the testimonies of people who DO know him, he seems like a humble, ambitious, hard-working guy.

Lissette is spot on. If he weren’t so controversial due to his outlandish behavior, there wouldn’t even be a “poll”.

bobby – you’re right. results on the pitch DO matter. so, when we examine his world class talent, we also need to examine his world class diving. he has also done some pretty questionable things on the pitch. just ask teammate Rooney ala’ Portugal-England. Wink, wink! he’s also known to be just as dirty as some of the tackles put on him. and of course he’s had plenty of inexplicable, boneheaded moments.

there’s such a heated debate about him due to the fact that the only thing larger than his paycheck is his ego. he puts himself above the team (Real Madrid Summer Saga) and doesn’t really believe in the concept of “team”.

the popular term “form is temporary, class is permament” certainly rings true in his case. he had a great EPL season, bringing an already formidable ManU side to the league title and the CL (although he missed his PK). The second half of ‘08 was certainly lackluster. furthermore, he hasn’t really established himself with the NT. there have certainly been times this season, where people have questioned his desire to even be on the pitch…and there’s your tell-tale statement.

a true champion never has their will and determination questioned. with the pretty boy, there’s always a question of whether the good one will show up, or the disinterested one. in that regard, it’s more likely to compare him to Cassano rather than the true greats who have been PROFESSIONALS in all facets of the game. on and off the pitch.

for all those people who say they would beat him up and punch him, even if you caught him (which you wouldn’t), he would then physically dismantle your body. The guy is built like a rolls royce… Jamie Redknapp once said, ‘people say why don’t you just kick him, but you couldn’t, you would bounce off him’. All the ‘pansy’ comments thrown his way are so ironic, if you see him in real life, you would understand he is naturally built athlete.

secondly, you say how his character and ego are so awful. The majority of premier league footballers are absolute pricks. Most are idiots with a lot of money because they can play football. Why should his character come into this?

I hope and wish every English football fan, including scousers, will realise you would much rather have him in the premier league than la liga. Just like it was a loss when Henry left, I hated him because he played for Arsenal, but he was fantastic and he bought so much to the league. Beating Arsenal meant so much more because Henry was playing, as it should be with Manchester United and Ronaldo.

Love to hate him, don’t just hate him. He brings joy to people all over the world with his ability.

i guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Cus im really only interested in results and what is actually done on the pitch. When your breaking scoring records from the wing and leading your club to titles, everything else can be overlooked, imo. And so what if your throwing orgy’s with high quality hooker’s and bedding broads left and right. live life and enjoy!. hahaha…

and the over the top ego and confidence is refreshing!. especially when it can be backed up. just for the simple fact he rubs so many people the wrong way and he doesn’t seem to give a sh!t either way. lool
