Nike’s Greatest Goals, In Cartoon
By: chris | May 13th, 2010

A few weeks ago Nike Stadiums came to the forefront and we took a look at some of their initial projects, all of them creatively unique. They’ve since come out with yet another project to mark the newest edition of the Mercurial Vapor, the bright football shoe dominating global pitches, which takes some of the shoe’s greatest history and recreats ten moments in cartoon form.
Yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
Here’s what I love about this: the video on YouTube has 265 views, 250 if you don’t count me. Not 265,000, 265 this second or 2 to the 65th power – 265. We haven’t received any emails about it (you’d be surprised – or maybe you wouldn’t), the internet isn’t flooded with virals and I haven’t yet seen the giant billboard walking down the street. It’s Nike, but without the Nike marketing juggernaut towing the line, making the calls, putting the product first. It is true to its artistic form.
Heroes of Speed:
In collaboration with the unique talents of Croatian artist, Danijel Zezelj, 10 of these memorable moments are recreated, bringing an unexpected dimension to football history. Sport illustrator Paolo Sabelluccis talents are showcased through the diagramming and construction of 10 goals that have made these Mercurial men Mercurial Heroes. In the following pages see Ronaldo, Ribery, Dani Alves, Drogba, Ibrahimovic, Arshavin, Ozil, Robinho, Pato and Cristiano Ronaldo as never before…
