Nobody Picked up in MLS Waiver Draft
By: Laurie | November 30th, 2007
Imagine if you held a garage sale and nobody came.
Or worse, you held a garage sale and packed it with all the delightful, lightly-used merchandise that you currently have no use for. But you still kind of love it, because you paid money for it once, right? Or maybe your slimy ex-husband or -wife gave it to you, but it was expensive, so you don’t feel right tossing it into the garbage when you can maybe stick it to him (or her) one more time by getting that sour old biddy from down the street to take it.
So you go to a lot of work to hold the damn garage sale, and you scrub and fold and arrange and all that garage sale kind of stuff…
And all your neighbors come, and they paw through your perfectly good old clothes and sniff your fifteen-year-old candles, and…
All right, you’re right. This metaphor is dying. But the point is, nobody buys anything. Not one little ceramic frog on a lily pad, or ugly, dust-magnet dried flower arrangement, or pair of pants that were stylish back before your first child was born…
Oh, wait. I was going to be done with that metaphor.
Sorry.
But this is the story of the MLS Waiver Draft. Much ado about absolutely nothing. Nobody given up, nobody taken in. A couple of guys will probably still stay with their current teams, but for most, the MLS dream ends here.
And on that cheerful, happy note…
Um… Have a great weekend?
