Not the Type of Stripping we Expected to see from Napoli Fans

By: Bob | June 11th, 2007

Daryl hit upon the Napoli and Genoa game on Sunday in which both teams gained promotion to Serie A in Italy. The video above shows the end of the game craziness. Thinking that the game was over, fans of both teams ran onto the pitch and started taking off the players’ jerseys and shorts in a celebration that could only be inspired by thoughts of future Ebay wealth.

The strip show was momentarily stopped when the referee, who clearly was either deranged or brave, ruled that another minute of stoppage time was required. The fans cleared the pitch, players waited around in their underwear until some spare kits were secured and the final minute was played in nail biting confusion with fear that all that public flesh would inspire a certain 72-year-old Napoli fan to shed her wardrobe too. She did not, hence our ability to still see today.

Knock Sophia Lauren at your own peril! I could care less if she’s 100 years old. She did pose, by the way, for a calendar earlier this year and the pictures rock. I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything so bizarre in football before. Well, I probably have, but still the sight of a Genoa staff member trying to kick the door in to get spare jerseys for the naked players to resume the game is pretty high up there.

But what was the referee thinking? They were already 4 minutes into stoppage time and neither team wanted to keep playing AND half the players lost their kit! And then he has the nerve to call everyone off the pitch, make them fetch new jerseys and play on for all of 10 seconds before “officially” calling time? What a prick.

Still nothing on the Roma Scudetto-clinching match in 2001 — the fans came on the pitch with like 10 minutes (?) left and took everyone’s clothes. It was brilliant. The invaders then watched the rest of the match from the track, since no one could be bothered to get them back into the stand (I’m sure it’s on YouTube somewhere).
