Now That’s A Proper Kickoff

By: chris | August 9th, 2008

Birmingham were certainly disappointed kicking off the Championship season after enjoying the high life in the Prem last season, but frowns turned to jubilee after they gave the Coke a raucous start. Their game with Sheffield United had eeked out to a goalless draw until a 92nd minute goal kick was met by a head and Kevin Phillips controlled the ball enough to turn blindly and give the Blues a last minute winner. Hard to ask for much more to start off the year than stoppage time deciders. Good juju.

Congrats to Eck on the win and Garry O’Connor on the assist. Keep O’Connor in form and don’t get him hurt - Scotland needs him for the WC qualifiers.

Kevin Phillips still one of the best finishers around, a superb signing.
