Now There’s Futsal Violence?

It never even occurred to me that there could be violence at a futsal match, but the above video appears to prove otherwise. It’s from Tuesday’s São Paulo futsal championship match between Palmeiras and Corinthians. With the score 1-1 at halftime, a massive violent brawl suddenly erupts, seemingly unprovoked, with chairs thrown, rocks hurled, families trying to escape and police beating people back with sticks.

According to The Noise From Brazil, the reason the violence looks unprovoked is that it was. These aren’t regular futsal fans, but torcidas organizadas, thugs dressed as fans who came to the game specifically to cause trouble.*

The second half will now be replayed at a later date at a to be determined (but hopefully moron free) venue.

Not always, they do make up the chants, bring the flares, flags (but theyre banned in some stadiums b/c the wood from the home-made flag was used to fight sometimes). but they Try not to fight with their rivals, its just a "if i saw a mafia azul (atletico's rival torcida) ima beat him up" its not like theyre trying to but the hate for a rival is big all around the world. but there also are alliances when one torcida travels to palmeira's to support their team and chant with them. like there are stores that sell only Galoucura merchindise but the money gos to the club. when its atletico vs. cruzeiro, they seperate the stadium so each fans sit at one half of the stadium and police stay in the middle. in rival games, not a long time ago there was a clash/brawl on the way to the rival game, they travel together in groups by foot and buses. (but these brawls happen all the time outside the stadium) with the galoucura and the mafia azul and unfortunatly, one man broke got REally hurt by it heres how it started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

The torcidas organizadas are not always violent. Like the Ultras in a lot of countries, the organizadas are the folks who bring the biggest banners and flags, and create the best atmosphere in the stadium. A lot of them also have activities outside of the games, like samba schools for carnival.

But like the firms in England, they develop huge rivalries with other torcidas, and some of the more hot-headed members turn this into organized violence. I'd say by their very nature, the organizadas tend to attract violence, even if they don't want to, and most of the time their leaders turn a blind eye, at best.

However, we shouldn't paint all their members with the same brush. All the Gaviões da Fiel members I've met have been nice guys, not violent people at all. Plus they have some pretty good sambas =)

Are torcida organizada always violent? Or are some proper fans who just support the club and don't cause trouble?

im brasilian, and yeah EVERY club has that. TORCIDA are the fans. torcida organizada are the fan clubs. like the Galoucura (my clubs torcida organizada), mancha verde (palmeiras) torcida jovem santos (santos) all that. each club has that. but i hate the violence. FIRST TIME though it happened in a futsal match. wow
