One More Reason you won’t see Soccer on ESPN

With more than 50 international matches slated for Wednesday, today is the proverbial calm before the storm. This offers us an opportunity to take a peak outside the football world for a moment. We all know that Canada hasn’t exactly set the world on fire on the pitch. I blame Owen Hargreaves for that. Another possible reason for Canada’s football shortcomings is that its best athletes are being lured away to other competitive sports, like professional Rock, Paper, Scissors.

For the past four years, Canada has owned the World Rock Paper Scissors Championship like Brazil has owned the Beach Soccer World Cup. All of that changed this past weekend when Bob “The Saint” Cooper, a 28-year old sales manager from London, rose to the occasion and beat out 500 competitors to claim the title of the best Rock, Paper, Scissors player in the world.

Lest you think that this schoolyard game is purely a game of luck, you should consult The Official Rock Paper Scissors Strategy Guide, which has been called by many an Amazon book reviewer “the definitive text for all things RPS.”
