Optometry might not be the Best Profession for this Linesman

By: Bob | September 20th, 2006

We’re not sure which is worse these days, the requirements for becoming a referee or the requirements for becoming an optometrist in Spain. Apparently neither job requires much in the way of eyesight. As you can see in the video, Linesman Manuel Rodriguez Vallejo calls for a penalty kick in a match between Almeria and Cadiz even though the infraction takes place nowhere near the area. Rodriquez Vallejo, who happened to be in perfect position for the blow call, is studying for a masters in optometry. Perhaps he was the one who examined the eyes of our favorite Brazilian referee.
