Paraguayans KO Ref With Rock

By: chris | September 18th, 2008

At the 1:11 mark you can see fans of Paraguayan side Olimpia, unhappy that their team is losing to Universidad Católica of Chile in the Copa Sudamericana, start pelting the field with objects in the 85th minute and knock the assistant referee, Jorge Calderon, seemingly unconscious. It caused cuts and, according to Babelfish, “cerebral commotion” (concussion, I’m guessing), hospitalizing him overnight. Terribly idiotic behavior by the fans, but made so much worse because this is the exact behavior which sparked the tragic riots in the Congo earlier this week where 13 children died. Considering this recent circumstance, there’s only one solution: close the stadium for the rest of the year. Forcing innocent fans to watch from home is a lot better than watching innocent people die.

    I'm confused.

They hit the ref with the rock after he gave them the soft penalty that allowed them to equalise?

throwing a rock at the ref and going insane because somebody said a player on the field was a wizard are two very different things. this and what happened in congo arent quite comparable.
  • yeah.thanks
