Philippe Mexès Gets His Daughter Back After Carjacking
By: Laurie | July 25th, 2008
Roma (and occasionally France) player Philippe Mexès and his wife have been reunited with their two-year-old daughter Eva after thieves stole their car when Eva was in the back.
There are several different versions of this story floating around, including that armed gunmen pulled a gun on Mexès himself before driving away. That’s one’s not particularly credible, since I don’t think I know a father alive (especially a professional athlete) who would allow thieves to drive away with his child, even at gunpoint.
Another version has the thieves pulling a gun on Mexès’s wife. This one doesn’t work for me as a mom for the same reason. I don’t think any mother would refuse to take a bullet if it meant not losing a child.
A more credible version is here:
“Thursday night, Philippe Mexes was at training at Roma’s training ground at Trigoria,” said Jouanneaux, claiming that Mexes’s wife Carla had been alone with their two children, Eva and four-year-old Enzo.
“She took her son into the house and the two men came in behind her and stole the keys. She saw them leaving with the car, with her young daughter still inside.”
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti’s version seemed to back up that of Mexes’s agent.
“At a quarter to midnight (Roma team manager) Salvatore Scaglia came and told me (what had happened) and Mexes had already left to go home,” said Spalletti.
“Then I followed Mexes and went to his home with him, he was calm enough and had his daughter in his arms.
Best wishes to the family.
(I couldn’t find any photos of Eva, but the photo, above, and the video, below, are of Philippe and his son Enzo.)
