Photo of the Day: Football Can be Painful
By: Laurie | April 21st, 2008
This is AS Roma’s Francesco Totti, after recent knee surgery, as he shakes hands with Rome political candidate Francesco Rutelli.
I guess with enough post-surgery painkillers, even manly political handshakes don’t hurt.
Another photo with even more skin a post-surgery pic is here.
(Although I, myself, averted my eyes.)

so, at what point did you avert your eyes? or rather, what did you avert them from?

What I love about the other photo is that Francesco looks like he’s just watching TV - you can even see the remote - and the politics man has just come in for the photo op, and Totti’s not even noticed him.
At what point in the Totti injury did he think “Aha! a fantastico photo op-o!” they’ll stop at nothing. *shakes head disaprovingly*

Nick, from the injury, of course.
Or maybe it was from the waistband of the OhDearLordPleaseTellMeThat’sNotAThong

Now THAT is a political ad.
I really think that almost naked athletes in ads would really lift the tone of the current political cycle in the US. *phone rings at Tom Brady’s house at 3 am*

I thought these guys generally came to the States for a surgery such as this. Wasn’t that the case with Nesta or Maldini a few years back?

Well, Maldini and Nesta have homes in Miami (don’t ask me how I know that), so they both rehabed down there–probably a bit nicer than Milan in the winter…

i can’t say these photos disturb me in the least. certainly much less than those two recent broken leg videos. keep in mind i’m both a roma fan and someone who’s torn an acl.
the underwear does seem potentially scandalous though. maybe he needed to feel sexy post surgery.

Is it not striking that he has his watch on? I mean the guy is practically naked, and he still has his wristwatch on. They probably didn’t even take it off for surgery.

i imagine totti rocks a pricy watch. i wouldn’t leave it just anywhere.
