Photo of the Day: Invasion of the Tartan Army

By: Laurie | January 14th, 2008

I was in Paris last year for the France-Scotland game, and for close to a week the entire city was overrun by men in kilts and plaid. These two gents were among thousands at the brasseries (sidewalk pubs) around the stadium before the game. (The stadium is alcohol free. The brasseries are not.) I snapped their photo and told them theywould someday be immortalized on a US soccer website. And now they are.

(And consider yourself lucky that I’m not giving you the after-game photo of the guy in the tartan loincloth.)

Best and friendliest fans on Earth. One of my best days of last year was spent with the Tartan Army before, during and after the Scotland-Lithuania match. I've never drank or laughed so much on a matchday. The day after wasn't fantastic, though.

Laurie, I was in Italy for the Italy-Scotland match and also took a photo of several gents in kilts! (Though mine was in the middle of the St. Peter's Basilica, just slightly sacreligious)
