Platini: The More Referees the Merrier
By: Bob | February 14th, 2007
Good news for all of the students who skip their homework to spend all day reading The Offside. We are here to tell you where you should be focusing your studies so that you can land a quality job after you graduate. The future, my friends, is not in plastics but rather in football refereeing.
You see, if new UEFA boss Michel Platini has his way, there will be a great need for new referees in the years to come. Platini has offered up a proposal that will be a boon for the referee industry. Instead of having six eyes officiating a match he thinks ten eyes would be much better. The two additional referees would be used to keep an eye on infractions in the penalty areas.
A UEFA spokesman said: “Two more officials would definitely help to clear up misunderstandings.
“Platini does not want to break up the flow of the game with video technology but he is keen to see a new system and possible experiments.”
Platini has previously said: “We have to help referees who can’t see everything and I believe two more assistants on either side of the pitch would do this.
“It would help judging off-side decisions as well as a range of off-the-ball incidents.”
Platini’s proposal will be discussed next month, which should give you plenty of time to master the intricacies of the offside rule and to learn how to turn a blind eye when a player dives. Let’s hope those party poopers at FIFA don’t ruin your future by deciding to use television technology instead.

Why not just assign one referee for each player? That way they couldn’t possibly miss a foul.
