Plotting to throw a Grenade at Rival Supporters will get you Arrested

The craziness wasn’t just limited to international soccer this weekend. A couple of fans in Brazil have added their names to the ever growing list of supporters who do really dumb things all in the name of the beautiful game.

Two Palmeiras supporters somehow got it through their heads that it would be a good idea to throw a grenade at a bus full of supporters from rivals Cruziero because, you know, blowing up a bus of rival fans is hardcore and cool.

The fans were carrying an American-made grenade and confessed they were going to throw it at the bus transporting Cruzeiro fans back to the team’s hometown of Belo Horizonte, about 550 kilometers (340 miles) northeast of Sao Paulo, police said.

Fortunately police at a checkpoint were able to prevent the idiots from doing any damage. Haven’t they learned by now that grenades should be kept in the stadium?

This is one of those things that we can sort of shake our heads and even joke about, but if it would have gone off, it might have been one of the worst tragedies in recent football history. Good job to the Brazilian police for catching this one before it happened.
