Poll: Which Team is Most Likely to Retain Their Title in 2010 – Barça, Inter, or Man Utd ?
By: Daryl | May 17th, 2009
Barcelona and Inter won their respective league titles without kicking a ball yesterday.
Real Madrid lost 3-2 at Villarreal on Saturday, thereby giftwrapping and delivering the La Liga title to Barcelona. While AC Milan lost 2-1 to Udinese, which made Inter the Serie A champions (again). Barça and Inter will both play today. But rather than needing points to secure silverware, the two teams can treat their games as a warm up for (or even a part of) their league title celebrations.
Man Utd also coasted to the English title yesterday with a 0-0 draw against Arsenal, and so (arguably) the three biggest leagues in Europe were decided all too easily.
No doubt Real Madrid, Milan, and Liverpool gave it all they had, but we’ve pretty much known who the Italian, Spanish and English champions would be for some time now. We’ve just been waiting for the rubberstamp.
Now that it’s finally here, I feel a little… disappointed. Disappointed that these three great leagues couldn’t offer any sort of final day drama. No M. Night Shyamalan style twist in the tale.
I’m not going to fake any outrage at this lack of excitement, because in the long run there’s probably nothing to worry about. All three champions will likely face more determined challenges next season.
So here’s my question: Of the three (very convincing) league champions – Barça, Inter, Man Utd – who’s most likely to hold on to their title in 2010?

Bayern , no lyon, i mean … (i know mathematically, both can still win, but still, i couldnt resist). I put inter, but i dont watch much serie a football.
I’m a United supporter, 4 in row has never been done before in english football, so that would be truly special, and of course it would make it 19, lifting us above some team that won the league when i was too ickle to remember.

Strange results. I’d vote for Man Utd, Inter and Barcelona. Why do people give so much trust in Inter?

I meant “Why don’t people trust Inter”.

As it stands, the rest of Serie A has a bit to do to catch up with Inter really – mind you if Milan or Juve splash a bit of cash and Ibra goes someplace else, it could be game on.
Barca look the best team, but you can bet that Real are hardly going to take it lying down, and I expect them to bring in a host of names over the summer.
In England? I think with a couple of signings any one of the big four could win the league next year. On paper its the most open league. Whether it’ll work out that way remains to be seen of course.

I echo your sentiments Daryl. It’s becoming too predictable every year it’s the same scenario, and that’s when the Euro and W.C. competitions become even more special. It’s all about the money. Competitively I think that La Liga is the most entertaining as upsets occur more frequently. As a Gunner fan I see absolutely no resolve in the near future. The Premiership will be dominated by Liverpool and United for at least 2 more years.

very tough though i put barca, i think Man u is the one to return it. as long as chelsea and arsenal stop playing around about getting new coach every season or whining about how young a team is, they will never go anywhere

inter. they’ve got alot more depth that either of the other big 3. if ancelotti leaves milan won’t have a coach that can contend with mourinho…juve already has a coach who can’t hang with him.

Next year I am going out on a limb and saying d) Olympiakos also Barca, Liverpool and (provided the refs stop fixing matches against them) Fiorentina- I forget which site online showed the revamped Serie A table if not for horrid calls but Fiorentina has been robbed, robbed AND robbed yet still is going to make Champions league- Viva Viola and Barca is, quite simply, the best in the world at present.

No way Inter will win again. They won 2 soft titles, and only now have one a legitimate one.

rob when you say the premier league is an “open league”, do u mean open as in open only to the big four. Because i dont see anyone else other than them winning the league for quite some time

@revalesq:
in my biased opinion, fiorentina would have a chance, if they had some decent defense. although it seems like every team in serie a is trying to shore up their defense… and with a salary budget that is roughly a third of the big three and half of roma’s, its going to be tough to coerce quality defenders to come to florence.Posted from

Open league in that there is four teams that could realistically challenge for the title. And of course, if Man City make the right signings, they could be up there too.
To the arsenal ‘fan’, realise that injuries have hindered your season, get an experienced player or two, and you will challenge for the title, I am sure.
My guesses are United, Chelsea, Arsenal (not that order), and forth contested between l’pool, villa, everton, spurs

I believe Inter will be the one team that will retain their title. They have so much strength in depth that they will again dominate the Serie A. Only thing though would be whether Mourinho will stay (which he should) and if they have the capacity to threathen the EPL Big 4 for the Champions League.

FanZine – that was a very Alan Hansen-like comment.
