POLL: Will Sir Alex Deal Rafa The Death Blow?

By: Dave Martinez | October 24th, 2009

alex_fergusonA hobbled Liverpool squad limps home in hopes of a miracle as the struggling club faces an old, hated rival. Sir Alex Ferguson heads into this match with the smile of the Cheshire Cat plastered to his face. After years of back and forth between him and Rafa Benitez, a unique opportunity has materialized for the Man U UNITED great; the chance to write the final chapter in Rafa Benitez Liverpool fairytale.

Sure, Liverpool owner George Gillette has thrown his “vote of confidence” behind Benitez, but those words usually mean “the ax is coming.” Furthermore, the team is expected to take quite a defensive stance as team inspiration Steven Gerrard may be out, adding to their woes. Can you imagine a defensive Liverpool side, at home, getting tossed about by Alex’s boys? A solid and hurtful loss may just do the trick in ending Rafa’s career. And Sir Alex would be happy to play the role of magician.

So, tell us, what do you think? Will this be Rafa’s last stand?

Will Sir Alex put an end to Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool Career?(polls)

Speaking as a MAN UTD fan, I hope not. He’s just so fun to make fun of these past couple of years.

Speaking as a person with common sense, of course not. I mean, who are they going to replace him with? He’s gone to 2 CL finals and won 1 of them. I certainly wouldn’t want him as a manager, but has he really been that bad for Liverpool?

I’ve seen some absolute trash on the Internet but this piece of s**t article really does take the cake. Tell me, did the nurses in the asylum (or is it the teachers in your Nursery school? Can’t quite decide which is more appropriate) you escaped from notice you were gone while inflicting this utter verbal diarrhea on the world? Anyway, your utter trash will recieve it’s answer today at lunchtime when we batter your showpony excuse for a side AGAIN as we did back in March in your own backyard – We beat you twice last year and in one game we had no Torres OR Gerrard for most of the match and in the other we missed Xabi Alonso – I suggest you remember that AND the fact that your arrogant sorry mob may be missing Rooney and Fletcher who are as crucial to YOUR side as the others are to ours. We will bury you, just watch, now f*ck off and NEVER darken the Internet with your s**t again as your team will skulk away from Anfield this afternoon…………………

    Little does Red know . . . I am a Fulham fan.

    COYW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And FYI: I think Benitez has resurrected Liverpool from MUCH worse over the past few years. I think he deserves a chance – that is unless the losses truly begin to reflect fault on his end. And with players like Jermaine Pennant talking bad about his managerial style, the case is becoming harder to make.

Chin up Red. Have a beer.

Redshadow. Dave was not being bias. He was highlighting an issue which has been in the papers a lot recently. Four losses in a row is serious. I don’t know the last time that happened to Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea, but I’m pretty sure that their fans wouldn’t be too optimistic about the next game if it did.

Yes Liverpool beat Manchester United twice last season, but to suggest that Rooney and Fletcher are as crucial to Manchester United as Gerrard and Torres are to Liverpool is ignorant.

Let’s be honest, he isn’t the best manager in the world. His transfer record alone shows that. But they can do a lot worse, and to sack a manager mid-season is not something any team should do. It is possible that they can lose 3 of their next 4 games – Man Utd, Arsenal, Fulhum, Lyon. If they do, I seriously think Rafa will be sweating…

Although my fingers are crossed for a Manchester United win, I think it will be a draw.

As Dave said, chin up… have a beer…
