Premier League Crests: Hull City Are King.

By: chris | February 13th, 2009

As you may have heard, the big, bad EPL (and their friends at NetResult) are trying to blow our EPL Offside house down. They’ve taken our crests (whimper) and as a result we’re contacting each and every club individually to request permission. Partly for the crests, but also to see which clubs are cool and which are money-grubbing whores (and not the good “I have daddy issues” whores – the “wearing birth control patches like bumper stickers” kind).

As of today, The Offside’s newest most favoritest Prem club? Hull City, baby. Matt took the initiative by contacting the club and not only were they happy to give us permission, they also would like to use this free opportunity to promote Hull City stateside and are offering up mutually beneficial content. Unthinkable, right? Or maybe just smart business.

Hull City: 1
EPL: -5,273.

So check out the Hull City Offside for the reply and in the future we will be posting each and every response that comes our way, determining who are truly the coolest kids in school.

Hull City is way too cool for the EPL. Rock on, rock on.

Hull were already my favorite of the promoted teams this season, with their commitment to attacking, their manager’s commitment to tanning until he is actually the same shade of orange as in the club’s color scheme, and the way they’ve basically threw the EPL table into chaos. But this is a whole other level of awesome, and a shrewd recognition of business opportunities that less imaginative clubs would never even consider–Hull City AFC are officially over 9000 in my book.

    Well in Hull City.

Don’t hold your breath on getting the permission of my beloved Celtic though. They’ve shut down messageboards for a few days because users had avatars with the club’s crest on it. NO AL CALCIO MODERNO!

While i am not at all a Hull fan, this is really cool and makes me really respect/admire the club. I’d assume almost all non-Prem and lower half teams (the Fullhams, Boltons, etc) would react the same way, but this is going to be very interesting to see play out. I hope all the teams are this accomodating/cool, but i have serious doubts about the Big 4. Hope they prove me wrong…

its not just a matter of being cool, it’s good business not just in good will but basically having free advertising and understanding the importance of the web 2.0. i dont feel like we should have to congratulate a business for being savvy but the fact they added in the extra awesomeness and weren’t snide dicks about it makes them deserve it.

Well played Hull. I contacted Chelsea about a year ago looking for possible joint ventures where I could promote the club but, of course, never got a response.
