Premier League Ref’s Porsche Vandalised by Girlfriend
By: Daryl | November 6th, 2008
This is a £40,000 Porsche Boxster, much like the one owned by Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg. See how it’s all shiny and nice? Except Clattenburg’s £40,000 Porsche Boxster doesn’t look like that anymore, because his girlfriend (presumably now his ex-girlfriend) Susan Clegg poured a corrosive substance all over it. Allegedly. Susan Clegg has already been arrested and released on bail.
There’s an image of the damage done to Clattenburg’s car at the bottom of the post.
Rough twelve months for Clattenburg. In 2007 he made more than one high profile error, like granting Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher a sort of diplomatic immunity in the October Merseyside Derby, and making Alex Ferguson mad enough to swear at him on November.
Maybe the police have arrested the wrong suspect?
And I know what you’re thinking: How does a referee afford a £40,000 Porsche Boxster? Surely we’re paying them too much. Well apparently we’re not, because Clattenburg has been (temporarily?) suspended from refereeing in the Premier League since August 2008 due to business debts.

Hmmm. Questionable refereeing decisions and a £40,000 Porsche.
Are the words “Asian Betting Syndicate” popping into anyone else’s mind?

Should’ve happened to Martin Hansson!

Laurie, premiership referees are so incompetent that they’d probably bodge the fix and make the right decision.

I disagree. Pay refs more, or hire them on a full-time basis to get good young refs interested in refereeing as a career. What’s the point in having bitter, underpaid refs controlling a field of players that are getting paid an average of 20k per week?
