Q & As with Chicago Blogger Sean

By: Laurie | March 14th, 2008

Today we’re getting to know Chicago blogger Sean. Who needs to give me a personal introduction to his ice cream. For oatmeal cookies ice cream I would forgive the Liverpool love.

Favorite team besides the one you blog on?

Liverpool FC

The player you’d most like to kick a ball around with ?

Cesc Fabregas

Favorite ice cream?

Ben & Jerry’s … I think it’s oatmeal cookie or something … cinnamon sweet cream ice cream puts me dead center in my happy place.

Favorite on-the-field formation (4-4-2, 4-3-3, etc.)?

I love a flowing Total Football-style 4-3-3.

Cats or dogs?

Cats, emphatically. I have five cats. I cannot abide any animal that worships me as slavishly as a dog.

Favorite non-Offside soccer blog (because obviously we’re your favorite)

du Nord if I’m really looking, The Offside Rules if I want to laugh about obscure soccer references and pop-culture snark

Last DVD you watched

Final disc of Season 2 of ‘Supernatural.’

Who’s going to win the MLS Cup this year?

With the millions from Conde’s triumphant European transfer still jangling around in their pockets, the Fire will send Señor White off into the sunset with one last bit of silverware.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A record producer or a basketball coach.

If you had to keep your eyes locked on one position (e.g. striker, goalkeeper, etc.)
for an entire game, which would it be?

If a team’s holding mid is good, I’ll usually focus in that direction. I love deep-lying playmakers with bite (Fabregas, Pirlo, Veron, et al).

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.

I run a weekly Dungeons and Dragons game in my house. In fact, we played last night.

The most games you’ve ever watched in a twenty-four hour period?

Five or so, I think. Not that unusual for me to do, given free time and television access. I’ll watch just about any soccer.

Morning person or night person?

Neither? Heh. I’m a middle-of-the-day person.

Favorite national team outside of your own?

Argentina.
Favorite TV show to watch in reruns?

Top Chef.

Favorite current player on any team?

Leo Messi.

Favorite comfort food?

My wife and I make these garlic and cheddar potatoes that are phenomenal.

“Gruesome Soccer Injuries” video. Would you watch or not?

No, no, no.

Favorite sport or physical activity to participate in?

Soccer or basketball. I love team games.

Best game you’ve ever seen?

England-Argentina in the 98 World Cup was phenomenal. I nearly lost my job at the time because I simply could not get up and leave the deli where I (and most of the kitchen staff) were watching the game.

Best pet you’ve ever had?

Jeez, what’s next? Who’s your favoritest child? Heh.

Favorite goalkeeper ever?

Kasey Keller.

What else would you like to say about yourself?

Nothing. I’m going back to my cave now.
