Q & As with LA Galaxy Blogger Laurie

question_mark2.jpgToday we have Q & As with LA Galaxy blogger Laurie.

Her most cherished soccer item in the world is a Zidane jersey, and she gets a little thrill every time she writes about herself in the third person.

Favorite team besides the one(s) you blog on? Probably Olympique Lyonnais. I love the French style of play, and it’s epitomized by OL.

The player you’d most like to kick a ball around with ? Probably Zidane, except that I don’t think he suffers fools gladly. I’m sure I would qualify. The drooling would give me away.

I mean…um…yes. I am way too old and happily married to be writing things like that. So Lilian Thuram, maybe? Or Cobi Jones?

Favorite ice cream? Lemon sorbet. Or Baskin Robbins chocolate almond when I’m feeling particularly decadent.

Favorite on-the-field formation (4-4-2, 4-3-3, etc.)? I’d have to go with 4-3-3. I have no idea why. I think of 4-3-3 like I think of frogs. They just make me happy, okay?

Cats or dogs? Both, for different reasons. Dogs = unconditional love. But when cats pay attention you, you feel like you should put it on your resume under “personal accomplishments.”

Favorite non-Offside soccer blog (because obviously we’re your favorite) So many! Probably Center Holds It, Pitch Invasion, Run of Play. And any other blog that makes me think or laugh. Bonus points for those that do both.

Last DVD you watched The guys in my family are on a Star Trek binge, so it was a two-part Deep Space Nine episode. (LOVE Worf — that Klingon thing.)

Who’s going to win the MLS Cup this year?  The Galaxy, of course!

Realistically, though? I think it’s either RBNY, Chivas or Chicago’s turn.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Anything to do with horses. I seriously dreamed of being a professional groom, which basically means spending your life shoveling horse crap. i had it that bad.

If you had to keep your eyes locked on one position (e.g. striker, goalkeeper, etc.) for an entire game, which would it be? Leftback. There is nothing more gorgeous than a marauding fullback. The offense/defense overlap gives me shivers.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know. I played rugby in college. For two months. Gave it up for a guy. Should have given up the guy instead.

The most games you’ve ever watched in a twenty-four hour period? I’m a slacker compared to my fellow bloggers. Probably only three. Maybe four if you count the same game viewed twice.

Morning person or night person? Definitely night.

Favorite national team outside of your own? France, no question. I’m heading to Europe in a couple of weeks and I have tickets to France-England. This will be the second game I’ve seen them play live in less than a year.

Favorite TV show to watch in reruns?  Frasier. (I love their philosophy: Never explain anything. If people don’t get it, they don’t get it.) Close second: Simpsons.

Favorite current player on any team? Karim Benzema — such a polished talent already at twenty. Or Nicolas Anelka, because I love a good redemption story. (And I’m hoping Chelsea doesn’t suck all the creativity out of him.)

Favorite comfort food?  Chocolate. Cadbury. The end.

“Gruesome Soccer Injuries” video.  Would you watch or not? I decided awhile back that one of the joys of being a grownup was knowing I really don’t have to prove anything by watching videos like this. So… Nope.

Favorite sport or physical activity to participate in?  My joints are telling me to go with something low impact, so I’ll say kayaking. Slow, leisurely lake kayaking. Not the whitewater stuff. Or what Fitz said.

Wait. He’s the one who mentioned hiking, right?

Best game you’ve ever seen? I’d have to go with France-Brazil in World Cup ‘06. I have it on DVD and rewatch it periodically. Always cheers me up.

Best pet you’ve ever had? My current black lab, whose name is “Spock” but who answers to “Doofus.” If you have to ask why, you don’t have a lab.

Favorite goalkeeper ever?  Fabien Barthez always entertained. Note that this does not mean I would want him playing for my team. His complete lack of opposable thumbs scares me.

What else would you like to say about yourself? In real life I am married. I’m a mom. I’m actually quite respectable and have a life that does not involve having fun with the phrase “groin injury” or digging up photos of footballers in various stages of undress.

No. Really. I’m serious.

Why are you snickering?

“Groin injury” is just one of those inherently fun phrases. Nothing unrespectable about thinking so.
