Qatar looking to hire fans for Asian Cup
By: Bob | May 23rd, 2007
After all those years of sitting in stadiums and watching games on television, your hard work might have finally paid off. The good folks at the Qatar Football Federation have put out the help wanted sign. They are looking to hire fans to watch their team play this summer during the Asian Cup in Vietnam.
According to reports in Vietnam, Qatar is offering to pay 10,000 local fans to cheer on their team because it is highly unlikely that many Qataris will travel halfway around the world for the tournament. They are even going to throw in free outfits for the rent-a-supporters. No word on whether that means you’ll be wearing a dishadashah or not.
Wasn’t this the same strategy the U.S. used to try to win the Vietnam War?
Yes, sitting through a game involving Qatar might be a difficult task, but what else are you going to do this summer? You might as well become a mercenary fan and rent out your services to other poorly supported countries/clubs. Plus, it is easier and possibly more lucrative than selling blood or donating sperm. And Qatar does have Khalfan Ibrahim who may or may not be the next best thing since sliced bread.
The only potential pitfall with the Qatari plan is that their side faces Vietnam in the opening round. They might have to pay double for that match.
