Ray Winstone Wants You to Show Some Respect for Referees

The FA’s Respect campaign has taken some deserved stick this season. Mostly because the players have ignored it, and – looking at you Cashley – continued to berate the men in the middle.

But the above video serves as a timely reminder that the campaign isn’t aimed solely at arrogant Chelsea left backs.

And if just one football dad watches this video and – either through shame or through sheer fear of Ray Winstone – decides to stop abusing amateur refs and ruining the game for kids, then I’d say it was all worth it.

But maybe they should make a sequel where Ray Winstone yells at Ashley Cole? Just to be safe.

If referees want respect they have to take it into their own hands. Formal protest is a really good way to do it. At game time when it's time to start the match, the ref should blow his whistle and then turn his back to the game. Everyone will see that the refs aren't participating and be confused. Ref holds up the game for a minute, and then starts it like normal, it'll just show that without the refs there is no game. If the refs decide to do this collectively, then there's nothing anyone can do.

nobody should do this to a ref, but when they make a mistake that is proven wrong by video, they should fix it. when there is a tough call, they should look at the slowmo replays, and make sure they get it right. that way, everybody is happy.

Maybe they should send Ray to the games? That'd shut everyone up real quick.
