Reason #37,815 Not To Trust The Media
By: chris | June 3rd, 2008
Seems like the summer coaching carousel is trumping player movement thus far, eh? As much is to be expected whenever Jose “Gimme Gimme Gimme That Spotlight” Mourinho is anywhere in the vicinity of proceedings, of course. But now with The Average One (hey, he said it) off to the black & blue side of Milan, it’s time to move on to new, untapped sources.
Well the media didn’t go very far, moving over to the black & red side of the San Siro for the next installment of Breaking! News! this morning. When you woke up, Carlo Ancelotti, oh he of great Champions League success, had agreed terms with Big Boss in London, and was supposed to be the new Chelski gaffer by dinner. This even, Carletto stepped in and put the kibosh on the rumors, saying he is “150%” Milan. Oops.
So I went searching for an official link from any of the tens of millions of media outlets who’d reported Ancelotti had agreed to a big time contract to lead Chelsea to the promised land (also known as Old Big Ears), but all the stories had been pulled (‘cept goal, but they don’t really count). Whaddya know? Perhaps it had something to do with this little denial right here:
“Rimango al Milan al 150%”
Even if you don’t speak Italian it’s quite easy to figure out. Then Chelsea got into the act:
Contrary to reports Chelsea Football Club has not reached agreement with any individual to become manager, nor have we sought permission from any organisation to talk to their manager.
What’s the moral of this story? There isn’t one. It’s just going to be a long summer. Again.
