Remembering Sheva

By: The Offside | July 30th, 2012

Has any transfer destroyed a career so quickly, so grandly as Andriy Shevchenko’s to Chelsea? Probably. In fact, there is a bit of a theme with another Ballon D’Or winner of the time, Michael Owen. The man was the cat’s pajamas near the catwalks of Milan, and then he spent most games in his pajamas in London – a rather expensive mistake for all.

Sheva hung ‘em up this weekend to concentrate on politics. And despite the last years lacking in the glory of yesteryear, it’s worth noting…he was once absolutely brilliant. It’s not every year a former Ballon D’Or winner calls it time. This summer, it might be twice.
