Ricardo Fuller Sent Off For Slapping His Teammate

By: Daryl | December 29th, 2008

Did you know you could get sent off for slapping your own teammate? Stoke’s Ricardo Fuller didn’t, but he does now.

He gave his captain Andy Griffin a slap after Stoke conceding a soft goal following Griffin’s poor tackles, only for the ref to show him red. Incredible stuff, but not a patch on my all time favourite “smells like team spirit” brawl: Lee Bowyer vs Kieron Dyer…

And of course there was the more recent Emmanuel Adebayor vs Nicklas Bendtner. Grown men fighting over the Carling Cup of all things.

Anyone know of any other teammate vs teammate action?

  • Rules state that any type of "violent action" is considered a red-card offence, including those between players & spectators (n'est-ce pas, Cantona?) as well as players from the same team.

And yes, that Dyer vs. Bowyer moment is a pure classic.
