Robbie Fowler Going Down Under

By: Daryl | July 15th, 2007

Seems that God is no longer waiting idly by the phone, as the good people at Sydney FC are prepared to make him an offer. They’ve had Robbie Fowler out there to show him the city, in the hope that he’ll be attracted not by the money (which he has plenty of already) but by the sunshine lifestyle they can offer him. Here’s a great quote from Sydney FC chief exec Geoff Perry: “We’re hopeful, But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves. The fact Robbie has come out here at all is a good sign. He wouldn’t come all this way just for a haircut.”

If you think of Robbie Fowler as the half fit thirty-something striker who occasionally featured for Leeds, Man City and last season Liverpool, then you’re sort of correct. But take a look at what he did in his first spell at Liverpool in the above “100 Players Who Shook The Kop” video, to see why he’s still so highly regarded. Fowler is also attracting interest from Cardiff City and Port Vale but much like Beckham he’s going to be happier as a marquee player in sunnier climes.

I would love to see him come stateside to play in MLS, but as his most likely destination would be New England, Australia is probably a better bet.

wasn’t he rumoured to move to MLS side LA Galaxy? I’d love to see him go there to play seeing as he’s the perfect goal poacher but I love Sydney FC as well and that league could use a boost from a big name player
