Robbie Savage Earns Pilot a Red Card
By: Bob | October 8th, 2007
We’ve all seen Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage bait opposing players into penalties before and we’ve seen the long blonde haired villain be a menace on the football pitch. His reputation of being a football pest is well earned Little did we know, however, that he should also be viewed as a terrorist threat.
An airplane pilot who once flew missions for the RAF over Iraq during the first Gulf War has been fired because he allowed Savage to fly in the cockpit during a flight that Blackburn chartered back in August. That is against anti-terrorism rules these days.
Pablo Mason says he was just helping out Savage, who apparently curls up in a ball and cries because of a terrible fear of flying.
“There is no way on a normal public charter I would entertain taking even a small child on to the flight deck when I have no idea of their pedigree.
“But this was a famous footballer politely requesting to do so on a private charter.
“The plane was barely half full with a Premiership football team, its directors and staff.
“I am quite aware of the threat of terrorism. But when there is no threat, as I judged there not to be on this occasion, I don’t think you should blindly adhere to rules set by bureaucratic nincompoops.”
Kudos to Mr. Mason for correctly using one of my favorite phrases, “bureaucratic nincompoops”. But one has to wonder about the pedigree of which he talks. Surely he has seen Savage bite, claw, and kick his opponents week in and week out. A terrorist he might not be, but a ticking time bomb waiting to go off at the least bit of turbulence he very well could be.
