Roma’s Birthday Duo

By: chris | October 1st, 2008

From the Curious Statistic Department: Roma beat Bordeaux 3-1 in France on the back of second half goals from Mirko Vucinic and Julio Baptista (brace), who both happened to be celebrating their birthdays (25th & 27th, respectively).

Has that ever happened before? Is there any way to even check that? Multiple players scoring on the same birthday in the same game for the same team? Something tells me there have been too many games in history for it not to have happened, but then again it’s such a random feat. Any trivia buffs in the crowd?

And as ever, wiki has the appropriate commentary:

“On 01/10/08, he scored his first Champions League goal for the club, putting Roma into the lead 2-1 against Bordeaux, and then scored again making a good Champions League debut. It was also his birthday. Julio knows how to party!”

That he certainly does. (He’s a Brazilian calciatore, duh.)
