Ronaldo and Zidane Square Off in Charity Match
By: Laurie | November 20th, 2007Oh, that Ronaldo. (As Martha says, the one with the glandular issue, not the pretty one.)
He’s been a busy little bee lately, and being out injured for Milan hasn’t slowed him one little bit. When he’s not working at selling hair growth tonic in Asia, he’s squaring off against former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane.
Friends of Ronaldo played against Friends of Zidane last night in front of a crowd of 29,000 in a match to benefit the United Nations Development Program. Zidane’s team took the lead 2-0 in the first half — a scoreline that included a goal off a Zidane free kick — but they couldn’t hold on, and Ronaldo’s boys scored twice in the second half to tie things up. The match ended 2-2.
“I’m very tired,” joked Zidane after coming off in the 57th. “But for as long as I can, I will continue to play in this game.”
Zidane. Tired. After fifty-seven minutes. That’s not supposed to happen! He’s never supposed to get old! (And I guess this makes that MLS transfer rumor a little more unlikely, doesn’t it? Damn.)
You can also check out this video, which has a poorer picture quality but is in French and has more interesting content. By which I mean more lovely shots of Zizou all of the goals. And for more still photos of the game, click here.

Schumacher plays in as many benefit matches as he can find, Mat — he and Eros Ramazzotti live for them!

I’m pretty sure France with Zidane wouldn’t have lost twice to Scotland. The guy can still ball.

I know that about Schumi, Martha..I was just trying to point it out to folks who might have missed him in the video!..and unlike many other “superstars” he has never missed opportunities like this to give back to the community..what else..he is still the best driver of an f1 car out there!
