Ronaldo Signs Imaginary Real Madrid Contract
By: Daryl | January 13th, 2009
Remember that big transfer rumour about a month ago that had Cristiano Ronaldo all signed up on a secret deal to play for Real Madrid next season?
Seemed somewhat plausible at the time, until Alex Ferguson’s responded with “Do you think I would get into a contract with that mob. Jesus Christ, no chance. I wouldn’t sell them a virus.”
Well, that rumour is back today, and from no less a source than Guillem Balague, who doesn’t usually stoop to spread gossip.
But here’s the important bit: Balague’s story is simply that C-Ron (pictured imaginary stabbing his teammate in the back) has agreed terms with Real Madrid prezzy Ramon Calderon for next season, not that Man Utd have agreed to sell.
And I quote:
In spite of Ronaldo’s agreement with Ramon Calderon, the refusal of Sir Alex Ferguson to sell his best player remains a significant obstacle to the transfer to Madrid going ahead. And, if United refuse to sell, then the secret agreement with Calderon remains nothing more than that.
In Balague’s defence, he highlighted that passage himself. But even in bold, it’s still a massive understatement. Fergie’s refusal to sell isn’t just a “significant obstacle”, it’s an immovable French lorry-driver-style roadblock. Without Fergie’s agreement, any deal between C-Ron and Real Madrid is basically imaginary.
And it also raises this question: Is Balague accusing C-Ron and Real of wrongdoing here?
Surely players aren’t allowed to discuss terms with other teams until a transfer fee is agreed? We all know it happens (looking at you Cashley) but that doesn’t make it OK. All we can do now is sit back and wait for Fergie’s no doubt brilliantly brutal response.

Balague talks absolute RUBBISH half the time. I remmember some years back when he said that Torres is “definitely” going to sign for Manchester United!

Well Sir Alex doesn’t have much of a choice if Ronaldo really wants to move to Spain. Having an unmotivated and unhappy player on the squad is a liability. Better off getting the millions and looking for someone else.
Sir Alex is probably just trying to delay things as much as possible so he can raise the price.
