Ronaldo Strikes Again

By: Daryl | March 13th, 2009

To be honest, I was half-expecting Ronaldo’s return to domestic Brazilian football to be disappointing. The circumstances of his joining Corinthians over Flamengo were a little suspicious, and I more than half-expected it would take the guy a while to rediscover his scoring touch.

Happily, I was wrong. Because after his twenty minute runout was followed by a return to goalscoring ways, Ronaldo was on the scoresheet again this week.

The goal above is from Corinthians 2-1 win over AD São Caetano in the Paulista A1 (São Paulo State Championship). Can anyone out there (except maybe Flamengo fans) say they’re not happy to see Ronaldo finishing like he used to?

That’s two goals in three games so far. Not bad for someone who we never thought would play again.

Brazil coach Dunga has quite wisely said it’s too soon to start talking about Ronaldo returning to the Seleção. But the fact that the question was even raised is evidence of the massive public support for the player right now.

The other, younger, Ronaldo might be the hot property on the market, but there’s absolutely no doubt about which Ronaldo has more goodwill directed at him these days.
