Roy Makaay Scores the Fastest Goal in Champions League history

By: Bob | March 7th, 2007

If you blinked you might have missed it. All it took was 10 seconds for Bayern Munich’s Roy Makaay to score against Real Madrid, breaking the previous record for fastest Champions League goal held by Arsenal’s Gilberto. The play inspires almost as much pity for Madrid’s Roberto Carlos than it does admiration for Makaay. Remember when Roberto Carlos was one of the best in the world? That seems like ancient times. He’d probably get beat if he played at this level too.

Poor Roberto Carlos. He is still injured (you have to take that in account, too) and was actually limping for the last maybe 10 minutes. The Makkay goal was too good to be true. And this from a man whose name sounds like rheumatism.

It was Hasan Salihamidzic who made the cross. He could be a deity too, albeit one with a difficult name to spell.
  • I can't see who made the cross. Was that Sagnol? Looks like him. I swear, Sagnol is a god. Seriously deity-enhanced. The man is SO underrated.

The whole Real Madrid defense need to be sent away to the senior citizens home.
