Russian Football Setting The Bar Mighty High

By: chris | March 9th, 2008

We here at The Offside love it when things go wrong on the pitch, especially for goalkeepers. We suspect it’s some subconscious psychological issue regarding padded gloves and big dudes barking orders which a resurrected Carl Jung would find complicated enough to request a resumed slumber. Nevertheless, that’s why this goal, in the Russian Super Cup which took place today, is so fantastic; and it happened during the first game of the season. Andrei Arshavin cherry picks a beauty from Lokomotiv’s Ivan Levenets as Zenit St. Petersburg takes the trophy via a scoreline of…….wait for it……..2-1. See, bad things always happen to goalkeepers in one goal games. Oh, and it was Ivan’s debut. Pray for his soul.
