Schalke Getting Off To A Tough Holiday Season Start
By: chris | December 11th, 2007
Every Christmas season we all run out to buy the advent calendar of our favorite club, waiting each day in breathless anticipation for a new smiling portrait shepherding us one day close to presents the birth of Jesus. Fans of Schalke 04 stampeded towards the club shop like little children tumbling down the stairs at 3:30 on Christmas morning for their yearly dose of enterprising.
As the some of those Schalke supporters opened the first door, they found to their horror it wasn’t Kevin Kuryani or Fabian Ernst, but it was Diego. Yes, that Diego. And he wasn’t adorned in blue, as though the Schalke hierarchy has pulled off the coup of a million light years, he was in Bremen’s kit. Somebody has some explainin’ to do.
As they opened up the remaining 23 windows, the duped consumers found it was filled with many many green and white kits from the northwest. The company which produced the calendars for both clubs let about 40 slip through the presses with Werder Bremen squad members instead of the rival Schalke boys.
This comes after a not so wonderful weekend which saw Schalke draw (again, that’s 8 draws this season) and Fabian Ernst stupidly start a fracas which saw Carlos Grossmuller sent off after running onto the pitch from the bench and sticking his hand is some guy’s face. Suspension? Maybe? Yeah? (Video below for your viewing pleasure.)
Today Schalke play Rosenborg at home for a spot in the Champions League knockout rounds and need a win to pass through. Maybe they could use that Diego guy.

I wouldn’t want to imagine what would have happened, if it weren’t Werder Bremen but Borussia Dortmund players.
Great photo!

I think that easily has to go in my top 3 photo I’ve used at the offside, Roma or otherwise. I want a Roma vehicle like that.
