Scolari Sacked. Already?
By: Daryl | February 9th, 2009
Big news today is that Big Phil Scolari is now unemployed, and Chelsea are now managerless.
And if Roman Abramovich thinks that’s the way to win trophies, then good luck to him. I’m sure short-term replacement Ray Wilkins will do a much better job than a World Cup and Copa Libertadores winner. /sarcasm.
Is it just me, or was this insanely hasty? Scolari was only appointed a few months ago, wasn’t given a great deal of money to spend, and made a good start at Stamford Bridge before things went a bit pear-shaped recently.
With not even a hint of irony, a club statement read: “The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager.” Gratitude they express through the medium of P45.
Scolari seemed like the answer when he was revealed this summer, but at the first sign of trouble Chelsea have ditched him. And now they’re starting to look like one of those clubs – think Tottenham or Newcastle – with constant manager rotation syndrome.
Unprofessional Foul ask the smart question: “Just who on earth is out there that could possibly be the high-level replacement they’re obviously looking for?”
No one springs to mind right now. I know Avram Grant’s available, but I’ll be very surprised if it’s him. Gianfranco Zola would be mad to leave West Ham right now and risk his reputation. Maybe Guus Hiddink? I’m sure Abramovich could – ahem – work something out with the Russian Football Federation to secure Hiddink’s release.
But then what if Hiddink isn’t an instant success? Sack him as well? The man Chelsea really seem to want is the man they got rid of two years ago. So now I can’t wait for this weekend’s edition of Special One TV.
See the odds for next permanent Chelsea boss on Bet Offside, and vote in Jack’s poll on Chelsea Offside. Kanye West appears on only one of those lists.

very short sighted.

I don’t think Hiddink is a fan of club football. What high profile manager is going to want this job after the treatment of Scolari? And Grant. Give the man a season to influence the team. As long as he qualifies for Champions League he’s done ok in his first year, then he can build into winning stuff. Very harsh, IMO.

Cannot wait for the next “Special1TV” after this!

I found it really funny that after spending the morning doing a big post about Number Two’s, one of them lands a (albeit temp) top level job.
Who do you replace a World Cup Winner with? Surely if anyone is going to be given a bit of time it’d be Scolari? Its a bit mad. They have been rubbish recently.

Sigh. I liked Big Phil. And things started out so well.
Again, sigh.

Chelsea were right to sack scolari.he may be a world cup winner, but he surely doesn’t know how to manage a big club like Chelsea.I hope they’ll get hiddink.he’ll know how to manage the squad.

big boss aka Roman Abramovich is on a quest to manage this team on his own.. it doesnt make sense…. i know they’re struggling a lil bit now but who could they actually bring in to make a difference, especially with only about 13-14 matches to go… chelsea’s problem isnt the manager its the squad… they dont have any width, the dont have any creativity out of midfield, shakey defence, and they dont have anyone who can score consistently…

What are the odds on an actual puppet controlled by Abramovich?

Sacking Big Phil is a bad move.

I’m siding with the “Phil had to go” crowd. The reasoning: there has been no change is tactics, performance – anything – over the past two months. That is more than scary. And, hey, at least we know Abramovich cares enough about the club to sack the coach. Bonus!

wow. It’s all I can say. Although I dislike Chelsea immensely, I’m shocked to hear this news! Shocked!

sorry, just testing, its been blocking my comments for some reason
big phil seemed so nice and didnt look at all tainted after spending so long in the presence of c-ron. he didnt have enough time. where do you think he could go next? the portugeezer (get it? old man + portugal = portugeezer)or manager of portugal if you prefer is not doing well, mourinho want to be coach of portugal, thus scolari to inter in a while? (i hope not i hate inter) but i suppose that the way things are going, he’ll probably go back in 6 months when the sack the next anager, and them abramovich will try to hire God as manager.
