It isn’t every day that you see a football manager carted off the pitch on a stretcher. Sevilla coach Juande Ramos was on the losing end of a battle with an object thrown from the crowd during his team’s match against rivals Real Betis in the King’s Cup in Spain on Wednesday. The match was halted after Ramos was knocked unconscious.

From the wire reports:

Ramos was carried off the pitch unconscious on a stretcher shortly after Sevilla took the lead 1-0 on aggregate when striker Frederic Kanoute fired home 12 minutes into the second half.

Early reports said that the Sevilla coach had been hit by a coin thrown from the crowd, but later reports said it had been a plastic bottle.

Betis medical staff told reporters that Ramos regained consciousness as he was put into an ambulance.

It is hard to believe that you could be knocked out by a plastic bottle but I suppose if it is filled with something and thrown from high up it could do some serious damage. All of sudden the Sevilla and Real Betis derby have become one of the ugliest rivalries in the world.

That plastic bottle was filled with cement the day before. He's lucky he's not in England, look at Cesc Fabregas and the amount of celery he got pelted with in the Carling Cup Final.
