Shunsuke Nakamura: Free Kick Genius
By: Bob | November 22nd, 2006Following his outstanding goal yesterday in the Champions League against Manchester United, my eyes have come across more than one reference to Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura being the best free kick taker in the world today. That is a pretty bold claim, but there is no denying that when the man from Japan lines up for a free kick opposing goalkeepers have to be pretty darn nervous. Below is a video of some of his free kick magic.

He strikes the ball to the exact same place EVERY time. ‘Keepers should be able to cheat a little if they watch this film. He never goes to the left post.

>He strikes the ball to the exact same place EVERY time.
It’s not true. Most of his Free Kick goes right-up in the Goal ,
but look at that one.

Actually the last time I saw a keeper try stand more centrally to get to the right side quicker from one of Nakamura’s free kicks he curled it low round the outside of the wall into the left hand side of the goal. He generally just kicks it where the keeper can’t get to.

And no he’s not an all round great player, just great at free kicks, corners, crosses, long passes, through balls, switches and dead ball shots. Hardly worth the money.

Having watched Naka up close can tell u that he can be very influential with ball at feet not just at set peices. The guy just oozes class. Anyone who says different just reeks of sour grapes. Has also turned into a graet tracker back. Best free kick taker in the world? Probably. Hail Hail!!
