Soccer Mom Accosts 14-year-old Referee

You know what I hate more than terrorists? I hate it when a 14-year-old referee blows a call when she is refereeing a soccer match involving children under the age of eight. There should be a dark corner of hell reserved for people who carry whistles and have the audacity to make a mistake during such a critical moment.
It is a good thing that parents are around to bring justice and order to the world. Parents like Sandra Gutierrez and Sergio Vazquez-Lopez who stood up for all aggrieved parents in the world this weekend when they accosted a 14-year-old referee during a youth match in Canada.
A team from Hillcrest had battled a team from Wexford, and were moments away from winning the game when the mother of a Hillcrest player took exception to a call by the teenaged ref.
When the referee’s father tried to intervene to protect her, the woman allegedly punched him in the face, yelling at both of them.
That’s when off-duty Durham Region police Det. Tom Dingwall, who was watching a game on an opposite field, overheard the commotion and decided to investigate.
“I was … there watching a game and identified myself and arrested the female for assault,” said Dingwall. “She began resisting, pulling away and digging her nails into my hand and her husband … became involved and began pulling me away from his wife …”
Amen. If we all work together we can make the world a better place one blown call by a 14-year-old referee at a time.
