Socci: Where soccer, basketball, and hackysack come together
By: Bob | November 29th, 2006
Maybe you are tired of traditional football and you have already mastered playing blind. If that is the case, you might be excited to find out about Socci. Part soccer, part basketball and part hackysack, Socci is great for both athletes and stoners because it will take you to another dimension, man.
From the company Web site:
Socci is the only sport in the world with a three-dimensional goal. The goals on the field represent a central-opposing power-scheme allowing scoring from all sides including the basket. This increases scoring, decreases crowding, and creates a unique strategy which promotes teamwork.
If you are down at your local park, jonesing for a game, but you left your three-dimensional goal at home, don’t worry, be happy. Alternative Socci offers up mobile options like the ever popular Trash Socci. Simply use a rubbish bin as a goal and you are good to go. Somehow I think this version might be popular with the homeless athlete crowd.
All new games must start somewhere and at this point there does not appear to be a Socci World Cup, but that is probably a matter of time. If you want to see how the game is played, the video below features the sport’s founder and some of the pioneering Socci athletes in action.
